New Student
Hi everyone. I'm currently attending the Univ. of Texas at Austin and I'm in the Integrated MPA program (Masters in Public Accounting). Essentially, I'm receiving my bachelors and masters simultaneously but within 5 years instead of 6 (4+2). This fall will be the beginning of my 5th year and I'm currently interested in attaining a position at an Investment Bank as an analyst.
A little background about myself:
I interned with PwC this past spring as an Audit intern and realized that public accounting was not for me. Instead of dropping out of the program and wasting all the money and time I had spent, I have decided to complete the program and hopefully sit for the CPA exam some time in the next few years just to have it as a backup in case things go "south" in the future.
I often hear that if a candidate is not extremely proficient in finance it is important for them to express how their past experience can help them in their daily tasks as an analyst. And I honestly believe that my knowledge in the accounting field can help me become a better analyst than those individuals who simply majored in finance.
I would really appreciate it if I could be given some tips on how to go about recruiting. Here at McCombs, quite a few notable investment banks come for recruiting during Dec and Jan. Since I am graduating in the Spring, I would prefer looking for a full-time position but I would not mind taking an internship in order to get my foot in the door.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
