New Years Try Hards

Is today international try hard day or something? FUCK. I woke up with an email from my director with the classic “New year let’s get it” message. My god, how awful it is to have to work under people that are chipper and motivated in the face of my misery after coming back from the holiday lull. Decided to go on LinkedIn, and what a mistake that was. All the LinkedIn entrepreneur cucks are out in full force today. “sAlEs qUoTaS sTaRt ToDaY!!!” Fuck off. People need to chill tf out, it’s already a Monday, no need to make it worse. These types make me absolutely despise corporate culture.

It's fine to be independent and a self-starter, but why does it have to be projected on others? It seems like people who do this are more concerned with giving the impression they are hard workers, rather than actually motivating their peers. As a junior who likely will not see any substantial trickle-down benefits from strong deal flow or sales quotas, but will bare a majority of the leg work in the revenue generating process, I can certainly sympathize with OP's view. An analyst who utilizes IB as a stepping stone, and has perhaps just had time off for the first time in months, would understandably be very frustrated to be inundated with emails like that on a Monday. Work isn't everything

nah he's a tryhard and should probably keep that shit to himself and his text thread with his unaccomplished internet life coach but he's not a cuck for any of the reasons you listed and you're a grumpy lumpy

Hah. Depending on what your function is, i can see this message as being beyond cheesy/pathetic or encouraging/motivational. If you're working in operations, you likely couldn't care less one way or the other. On the other hand, if you're on the investment side or in a sell side "eat what you kill" type environment, this type of message coming from the MD is at least a good show of confidence, especially after a year in which certain industries simply weren't doing a lot of deals. In the wake of covid, if i'm NOT getting this signal from my MD or CIO, then I start thinking about 1) job security and 2) bonus projections.

After all, when your corporate culture is really a money making culture, that's just the kind of mindset you need to have or i'd be questioning why i'm in here to begin with.

For using ib as a stepping stone, I'd at least view the deal flow "trickle down" as a way to pad your resume with high profile transactions (and bonuses, always) for your eventual transition. At least that's what used to help me sleep at night, even knowing life was going to be short term hell.

Another sign of a cuck is someone who is not motivated with what they do everyday and act like they don't care about their purpose or goals. If you are on your shit, you wouldn't care what others are up to for "New Years" even if they try hard. And yes I agree everyone is a little too extreme and benevolent this new year after 2020. Still, your energy should be geared towards your purpose!

bro this new word cuck is hilarious. i think somewhere between 20-30% of people even know what it means and the fact that it would become a common insult is so funny to me

you're mad about someone excited to achieve things?

you're mad because you read a positive email on a Monday?

you're mad because people are chipper and motivated after a break?

I don't think the problem is them, chief.

is it corny to say stuff like "sales quotas start today?" yes, it is corny, everyone knows it, but a PMA is one of the best ways to achieve in this world, not being Garfield and complaining about mondays. if you're miserable, seek help, get your life in order, change jobs, something, but the source of your misery is not others' positivity.

Not sure why everyone is chirping him. Everyone knows it's not PrEsTiGoUs to be a LinkedIn hardo - life is all about finding the right balance of secretly grinding your ass off in the background and having it externally appear as if you are a golden god and everything you do is succesful while being absolutely nonchalant about the entire thing

I'll chime in here. I chirped at him because his diatribe started off by complaining about an email from his director and (this is a direct quote) "how awful it is to have to work under people that are chipper and motivated in the face of my misery after coming back from the holiday lull"

he does mention LinkedIn, but that first part of the OP is what caused me to bark

No one likes try hards, at least most people don't - that we all agree especially LinkedIn try hards who act like getting an internship on WS or Silicon Valley is the NFL draft. However you shouldn't care so much to the point it bothers you that someone else is happy and motivated. Who do you want to work with? Unmotivated dull tedious people?
