New York Headhunters
Hello all,
I work for a buyside fund in New York. We would like to hire juniors out of investment banking. We have been recommended the following headhunters:
1) SG Partners
2) Henkel Search Partners
3) Robin Judson Partners
For people working in IBD in New York, which one is the most appealing to you? Which one has the best reputation and has the most prestigious clients?
Thank you!
The one that's most appealing is the one that gets me the best interviews. Have talked to the first two, never heard of the third.
Robin Judson has a HEAVY focus on Rx and distressed. If that is your fund strategy then Id use them.
Are you conducting a contingency search (as opposed to a retained and exclusive search)? Most headhunters that specialize in lower level placements (read analysts and associates) work on a contingency basis. So in that respect it's possible that you could engage all three in order to have them put as many resumes in front of you as possible. If you do take that approach, you may want to establish some ground rules between the three in order to avoid an uncomfortable situation where you get the same resume from both headhunters leading to a fee dispute.
I don't work in IBD (I'm a headhunter focused on Wall St at the senior level), but for what it's worth, I believe all three are reputable. The founder of SG and Robin Judson both used to work at a firm called Smith Hanley, so there may be some "shared DNA" in their approach whereas Henkel came to the recruiting business from the industry side (Morgan Stanley).
You forgot Search1 and DSPNY - two of the busiest hedge fund recruiters.
Amity is huge for PE.
Echo above - SearchOne and DSPNY are the two biggest HF recruiters.
HSP is biggest for megafund PE. SG Partners used to be big but a lot of people left to go to HSP and other HH firms. Don't know about the 3rd one.
