Next best thing

I have received an offer to intern at a very elite events management and sponsorship consultancy firm focused on a very lucrative sport. You get the chance to attend events and build an extensive contact list.
I have been drafted in to help with a major event coming up and I have been told by a former intern who is now an employee that the hours are extremely long, major stress and there is a lot of client face time. (I was warned many times in the interview that I would be thrown into the deep end).

Will this internship help my application in any way?

My end goal is to go into Investment banking. I was wondering, if someone can not get an internship in investment banking or finance, what is the next best thing that will help you prepare for recruitment for next summer?

I was thinking maybe more of the skills learnt?

I'm sure you can market it well. its understandable that people can't always get an interview for the field now. Times just got so insanely competitive.

If you've attempted and exhausted any and all other opportunities specific to investment banking and you have nothing, I would do that. I'm thinking about the next 3 years for you, not next summer, and the reality is that it's completely possible IB might not happen. In turn, you want your plan b to be possible through what you'd be doing now. The sport sounds like motorsport or polo or some other high net worth type of sport which is good. Client facing is never a bad skill. Event planning and management is also quite versatile.

Again, if you don't have anything else, then the answer it essentially made for you. But, note that IB could end up not happening regardless of skill transfer and that as a result, grasp this experience best you can and network as much as possible.
