Niche Commercial Lending Analyst w/ Questions About FP&A
I currently work in as a financial analyst in a third party lending company (we handle all aspects of the loan process and servicing) in a niche market. I have been here for about 3 years now. I've gotten great experience as we are client facing, handling underwriting and directly working with management to approve deals. I am not sure commercial lending is my long term calling for many reasons. I have considered moving into FP&A as it interests me quite a bit and seems to fit my personality/skills better. I like the idea of working internally as a strategic analyst to help a company continue to grow. I am curious about a couple things:
-
Does anyone have insight on experience in both of these industries and why you liked one over the other?
-
If I decide to make the transition, what is the best course of action to make the jump? From what I know, accounting is the main entry point for FP&A. I have a decent understanding of accounting as I minored in it but obviously what I am doing currently is not very heavy accounting wise.
I'd really appreciate any thoughts or insight you guys may have.
