Nightmare in my cubicle. coworker said i woke up screaming. WTF?!

So it was almost 4am and I decided to take a quick powernap in my cubicle. I just woke up with ONE POUNDING MIGRAINE, disoriented for 5 minutes not knowing where the fuck i am. i mean, shit. last time i had a 'nightmare' was when i was 12!! seriously. and this wasn't some horror movie being chased by casper the ghost. i'm talking, actually FEELING PAIN. as i type this, my fucking leg still hurts sharply and images continue to play.

so: i was eating in some cafe w/ some guy named "Eustice Gambino" (no idea who that is). Asks me about my lbo model. I told him it wasn't finished. Then he points a gun to my face, tells me to drink something. I wake up on a cold floor with this guy and a hacksaw, slowly sawing off my leg. I mean, its supposed to be a dream but it actually hurt like shit! Then I watch him with full graphic detail, pulling the flesh off my leg with his teeth. Dark blood everywhere. I look away, only to see the body of my associate with arms and legs hacked off, smiling at me and nodding his head like a bobblehead.

The guy eating my leg then tells me my dad just died from cancer. And laughs. Then he walks out and brings in a woman wearing a ski mask. Tells me to rape her and put a knife in her vagina or he will kill both me and her. So I rape the woman and stick a knife in her vagina. Then he pulls off her mask revealing her to be my girlfriend. I scream "IM SO SORRY!!" before her jaws fall off, leaving her with half a face. She falls over dead.

Now mad, I try to get up to hit him, but i realized my right leg is missing because he ate it. I tip and fall over. He then tells me "You know too much. You overheard something in the boardroom that you shouldnt. You can either quit your job, or wait to be killed someday." Pops open his pants and tells me to bite his dick off and swallow it. So I do it. Then he pulls out a shotgun and says "goodbye!". Blows his own head off.

I find a way out of that room, but not before getting my other leg caught in a bear trap. Now, having lost both legs, I crawl to the front door of this 'house.' There's a newspaper on the ground saying "Masked Man indicted on Insider Trading". The sky turns dark, a taxi cab pulls up to the driveway. I scream for help. 3 masked men walk out of the taxi with axes. They start hacking my body up and eating the pieces raw.

then my coworker came over after hearing me scream myself awake.

WHAT. THE. FUCK.
I swear I never even watch horror films. not a fan. havent seen one since 2006! what kind of fucked up bullshit was that?! is this a metaphor for something?

fuck that shit was too vivid. first thing i did when i woke up was check if my legs were intact.

Maybe it was a sign to quit your job. A premonition if you will...

props on the whole story, though. If I saw this as a horror movie, I'd honestly be impressed with how creative and detailed the plot was.

Man cannot remake himself without suffering, for he is both the marble and the sculptor. -Dr. Alexis Carrel

LOL get some sleep man. you've been awake for way too long haha. this one of those 120 hour weeks?

real life example of american psycho right here. dont worry, i know 2 of my friends who were once normal fun people, who are slowly becoming maniacally insane due to their jobs. you can see it in their face, how they act, even inbetween their speech. little subtle details give off a lot of revelation on what is going on inside their heads. they just don't seem ...... "right" anymore.

while catching up with one of my buddies from college on a day when he only slept 5 hours that whole week, he ordered rare steak and there was a little bit of blood on the meat and the first thing he did when the waiter dropped it on the table was suck up the blood. im like uhh are you ok? he's like yeah man, sometimes the taste of iron in your mouth really motivates ya.

You could be the next Patrick Bateman.

Its actually a medical condition, forgot what it is called, but vivid hallucinations are triggered by extreme sleep deprivation. In the special forces training its not uncommon for guys who are doing missions after having been up for 72 or more hours straight to preform the mission but when they recall it, they dont remember anything that they actually did but have extreme stories about what they thought they were doing. Hallucinations from sleep deprevation can also be triggered in dreams its been documented that they are so realistic that the brain triggers nerve reactions, i.e. you feel actual pain.

So no you are not going insane, you just need to get more regular rest.

Bingo, you're starting to crack and you'd better get some sleep this weekend. On a side note, you're going through what the native Americans called a 'dreamquest': a young man would wander into the wilderness and start hallucinating from exhaustion. It was an important right of passage, and the visions (hallucinations) were thought to be messages from the spirit world. Christ did a similar thing during his 40 days in the desert. Pay attention to your dreams: most times they are jibbereish and your mind is just sorting data, but if your nightmares are in any way reflective of your real life then maybe think about making some changes...sometimes dreams are your subconcious's way of ringing the alarm bells.

For what it's worth, I had a recurring nightmare all week where I was being fired, humiliated, and having my life destroyed. It was aweful and I was on edge the whole week. In my case, it was triggered by taking B-Complex vitamins too late in the day...whoops, that shit is like rocket fuel. But it's also the case that my partner was terminated in a very disagreeable way this time last year, so my brain was kind of reliving the trauma.

But anyway, back to the task at hand: UNPLUG for a day. Call out sick if you have to and if there's no live deals: they'll get over not having you there for one day. The next step is the hospital...and then you're REALLY fucked.

Back when I was an analyst during times that I was really stressed and not getting any sleep, I used to always get some form of the same nightmare. In my dream I would either be called up by HR or applying to a new job and told that I actually never graduated college. There would be some random meaningless class that I'd signed up for but never attended or thought I'd dropped but actually hadn't, and since I never attended I had failed, which prevented me from graduating. When I'd wake up I would be in a complete panic and actually wonder if there was some class that I'd forgotten about, which would prevent me from going back to sleep.

Happened to me a couple times too. Same stupid dream.

Wow... so weird. I've had this same dream ~8 times since graduation. No bullshit.

Sounds like your body is telling you to SLOW THE FUCK DOWN.

ha, i had a pillow at my desk back in the day so I a sure I had plenty of nightmares, but none this vivid. I think by my second year I was so tired / bitter that I didn't give a fuck anymore. Usually by your second year it gets less stressful because you know how to do 99% of the work, and the job becomes more of a grind.

Either way, I agree with everyone on here that you should take a day off to unwind.

Good Luck, Patrick

as someone with a second degree in psychology, i can say a couple things about your nightmare:

1) Go to the cops. No, not implying that you're a criminal. I'm implying that the level of stress exhibited and the content of your dream shows you're hiding a dark secret you're not supposed to know. Your boss has committed some serious insider trading hasn't he?

2) Your boss or whoever colleague committed fraud then threatened you either with your life (the hitmen at the end of your nightmare is a metaphor for that), your job (all the job related allusions show this), harming your loved ones (the girlfriend-rape metaphor), or a combination of them, if you didn't keep your mouth shut.

3) This "gambino" guy is actually a metaphor for either your boss or a colleague who has been committing fraud or something criminal for quite a while now. That explains why he told you you'll die for seeing something you shouldn't have.

4) The reason he shot himself with that shotgun = your brain remembering a conversation you had with him in REAL LIFE and his telling you probably something along the lines of "look, if all of this ever blows over, i'll just commit suicide". Several hedge fund managers who committed fraud have killed themselves over the years.

5) You know why you had that nightmare. you're not the criminal (because in the nightmare, you're the victim). but you work with a criminal and you know his deepest/darkest secrets.

6) Your associate in the corner with his arms/legs chopped off = metaphor for one of your colleagues who also knows the secret and his life/job is in danger as well.

7) You being forced to bite off his dick = metaphor for your indirect involvement in whatever scheme this is. you were an innocent job applicant who got thrown into the wrong team and now you got no choice but to support him.

I've been in a similar situation. Heck, this is why I travel with private bodyguards while on roadtrips now to protect my team. You will not imagine the kinds of nightmares Ive had from this kind of stress. This is no ordinary job stress. Ordinary burn-out job stress produces the kinds of nightmares described by the other guys in this thread -- losing job, flunking out of college, etc... not murder or picking up a newspaper about insider trading.

it's quite apparent you're hiding a dark secret that only a few, if not only you and the perpetrator, knows. and you've been holding that secret for a very long time and it's slowly driving you insane. When you have enough sleep and are mentally strong, you are able to just let it slide and not let it get to you. but science says our brain is at it's weakest emotionally with lack of sleep so last night you weren't able to repress such emotions any longer. kind of like your brain finally throwing off its hat and shouting "IF ONLY THE WORLD KNEW WHAT I KNOW!!"

You know I'm right. Unless you were on some serious LSD, vivid dreams like this don't just happen out of nowhere. You know you're hiding something man and either you leave the firm (although he'll probably still try to kill you) or you grab a lawyer, prevent yourself from getting framed, and go to the cops.

good luck.

Your anaysis is off, you are merely taking the contents of the dream as if they are fact. More likely the cause is extreme exhaustion. If he actually does know about something then you could very well be right, however we dont know that so why all of the nonsense?

Quite possible. As someone who also studied psychology in ugrad and spent the better part part of decade behind a bar listening to people's problems, the better conclusion would be that based on the dream, OP might want to see a PROFESSIONAL counselor who has the training to poke around in someone else's head without confusing what they see for their own reality. OP might have any number of issues, including what you describe but also unrelated issues that need to be addressed.

That, or the guy might just be tired as hell and his brain is starting to misfire: only OP knows

Agree with the basic jist of what spulonfire is getting at though: op needs to make some changes, and FAST before he snaps. It's just a job, deal with your shit before you end up on the sidelines.

I believe him as I've had similar vivid dreams. And I was on here the night he posted it. If you look at his time, it's like 3:57am... i think he posted this at work, right after he woke up. I usually forget my vivid dreams after a day or two but in the most extreme fucked up cases, i've remembered every detail 5-10 minutes after i woke up.

I once had a dream about being awake during surgery. dont want to talk about it.

I would go to the doctor ASAP. Leg pain doesn't have to be just a psychosomatic manifestation, it may have actual causes from muscle cramp due to dehydration/electrolyte imbalance to sciatica, to insufficient circulation affecting the nerves.

Technically, you shouldn't have been able to cut off your circulation that badly in such a short time (i'm assuming you weren't taking a 2 hr. nap) just by sitting uncomfortably, so if that was indeed what was happening, you may have a clot/narrowing of arteries. While you may think you are too young to have cardiovascular problems, keep in mind that males experiencing migraines have a 24% higher risk of major cardiovascular problems, and a 42% higher risk of heart attack. So, if I were you, I would ask for a doppler ultrasound of your blood vessels.

As far as your dream goes, turn it into a script and sell it. Maybe start a SAW-like franchise.

More is good, all is better
