No IB Offers -- Not Giving Up
Hey guys,
I am a senior finance student at a state business school (think Michigan, UVA, UT, UNC, IU, etc). I recruited for IB FT in the fall and had five super days for both investment banking and management consulting, but didn't manage to land any offers. I feel that I have a pretty strong resume (internships with bulge bracket banks, non IB) and a GPA of ~3.9 but for some reason I can't seem to win an offer. In hindsight, I think my issues have largely stemmed from a lack of networking. I did little to no networking, and all the interviews I got were from campus resume drops with no contacts at the firm prior to my interviews. I realize I should have networked more, so I am trying to use the winter break as an opportunity to begin cold emailing alumni.
Given how late it is in the cycle, what are my chances of getting an offer at this point? Am I screwed without having close relationships at a bank, or is it possible to get some interviews from new contacts/reaching out to HR? At this point, our campus recruiting portals are pretty dead and I am beginning to feel the pressure of finding a job in finance, let alone making it into IB. I don't want to give up yet, as I feel that I have worked extremely hard to keep a top GPA and get relevant internships, so I would appreciate any advice about how to handle recruiting going forward.
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys might have--I really appreciate it.
so you go to IU?...
But regardless, FT recruiting is truly a blood bath. It doesn't really matter what anyone on this thread will tell you, because if someone said that at this point it's impossible, would you really believe them and stop recruiting? So just keep gunning for any IB job at any size bank, and grind it out there. You are on the right track with reaching out, but extend who you're reaching out to be outside of just your alumni base
Can't be picky here. There should be tons of F500 CorpFin/Strategy/BusDev stuff you can apply so that you have a safety net. Keep trying and something will stick
