No luck getting internship, next steps?

I'm a sophomore at a non-target. My ultimate goal is to network into an IB SA position for next summer. Right now I have no relevant finance internships, but I know it will be important to get one for this summer so I have experience to show for recruiting next year. Currently I have struck out on all my attempts. What should I be focusing on next? Would you guys recommend cold calling/emailing local boutique IB or WM firms? Any suggestions are welcome.

Definitely start looking people up and reach out. I sent out a handful of emails to various WM firms in my area, I got super lucky and the first guy responded back almost instantly, sounded very enthusiastic and will be meeting with him after the 15th. If it doesn't turn into a summer-fall internship, I know I'll at least be able to leverage some of his contacts down the road.

Why not both? Tell them that you'd like to "both hear their advice and learn about any opportunities that might be available"

That sounds good. Would you guys recommend including my resume, or will this come off as too aggressive/forward? Again I understand that everyone will react differently, but in general. FWIW, I have a very high GPA. > 3.9
