Any insight into NEP Seems like they are a 2 and out shop that sends primarily to Booth, Wharton, and kellogg, which makes sense. Opened a new office in miami, but I'm more interested in the minneapolis office. Would love to know more regarding culture, associate experience, hours, comp, etc.
I’ve spoken to a couple folks there and they’re all very nice, smart people. Pretty solid shop overall and definitely a top option if you want to be in Minneapolis.
NEP is the most reputable Midwest shop outside Chicago, but unless you are planning on staying Midwest or using them to get into Booth/Kellogg I would lean towards their Miami office. New offices also have better culture generally as well.
I would disagree with the above that they are known for being nice, more of smart but douchey (at least at the senior level), and have heard relatively negative things about hours and associate experience but the pay is solid for MSP.
When you say negative things about hours, do you think we're talking banking all over again?
Well to be fair most of MF / UMM PE and even some MM PE has similar hours to banking so that isn't a good comparison. But yeah, similar hours most likely.
How many people are actually in the FL office? Isn't the head douche based down there?
Not actually sure, I don't know anything about the Miami office and it probably has a similar culture to MSP, I was more-of referring to recruiting for other PE funds and general career/lifestyle to which I would lean Miami. I wouldn't worry about the head of the fund though, it's really the VPs and Principals that Associates have to work with on the daily.
But shit does run downhill so toxic VPs and Principals usually means a toxic head.

Know a guy from there. FL guy folks are referencing is a Doucherton McGee and a sleaze ball. Life’s short. Don’t work for someone who only thinks about himself.
is mpls office still bad/as bad
Yes. All bad when you have that overhang.
Sadly, the culture has gotten worse. Many people are leaving the firm.
It's gotten worse.
Lol I last time I heard someone describe an individual as a Doucherton McGee was when I overheard my five year old cousin play Xbox live. I wouldn't listen to anything this child says and figure it out for yourself. Minneapolis is a great place and NEP has a good track record of being a premier fund in the area.
Yeah why listen to a consensus of comments on the same guy when you can go work for him and then come back here in a year whining about how PE isn’t what everyone made it sound like despite the warning.
OP, just jump into the bullet, this Fucky McBucky knows what he’s talking about.
NMP (Norwest Mezz) seems to have a much better culture and work life balance. Slightly lower pay, but I'd take that trade for sure. Still living like a king in Minneapolis with that comp.
What would comp at nmp be? around 100 base and 100% bonus? or is that too high
I honestly don't know anymore, sorry!
Any more insights since 2020?
