Not having any Transaction experience
Hi
Have an interview coming up, and know that my lack of transaction experience is a question mark. Any ideas on how I can mitigate that during the interview?
I was thinking of revising on my technical (learned from the WSO/BIWS modeling videos) and showing stories of how I can learn things, etc. Any direction in this regard would be helpful.
Thanks,
Habib
Be open and honest you have no deal experience and make sure you are reading up on current on big deals, deals relevant to your interviewer, general deal trends, etc.

does an analyst's deal/transactions experience signigicantly affect one's exit opportunities? are private placements/IPO/capital markets deals experience less valued than M&A advisory deals experience?
transaction experience is very important for exit ops. PE/HF's want to know what you did and what you learned and whether you have the skills they are looking for which is where your transaction experience comes into play. as to your second question, M&A deals are, at least in my opinion, better b/c the modeling is more complex and it just makes sense for PE groups to like guys who have dealt with LBO's before.
How much involvement do you need to have in a deal before you can mention it on your resume?
We were working on a huge deal with a major company that was cancelled a month after I started the job. Because of that I didn't do much more than a few research items and updating the team on news articles, but I think it will look good to mention the brand name on my resume.
