Notre Dame Undergraduate for MBB/T2 Consulting (also, MechEng Vs Finance?)
I was admitted to Notre Dame last week and I was wondering how you guys would place it for MBB consulting. If I was to be at the the upper-end of my class, how difficult would it be to get placed at MBB? I honestly had a lot of faith in the program because I had looked at the placement report here and it seems like Notre Dame places people well into consulting across several majors. However, after reading everything on this forum about the extreme bias of MBB recruiting towards HYPSM and how ND isn't exactly the best in placement , I'm not so sure anymore.
I also was curious about MechEng vs. Finance. I was admitted directly into Mendoza (the only school that has a student cap) which means I can major in whatever I want, but I'm guaranteed a spot in the business school if I want it. If I majored in finance, I would probably double it with Math, Physics, or something along those lines. If I majored in MechE, I would probably just minor in Finance.
So Mendoza has the benefit of the slightly increased prestige (who's heard of ND Engineering) and I have a lot of interest for the business material that I've researched so far. However, I've been insecure about going to the business school because I've heard a lot of lackluster things about the students at ND Mendoza and it's kinda been pushing me away. I'm not sure if these are just stereotypes, but I feel like I'd vibe more with the STEM-focused students in an engineering major and I'd enjoy my college experience more that way. With MechE, I also have a much easier route to transfer to a tech career if I change my mind. Stable engineering job... Yadda Yadda.
So the question is, am I giving away a "sure thing" (not really I know) by not going to Mendoza? Or is MechE just as good as well. The only reason I'm even considering this is because of all the consulting job's MechE majors seem to be getting from ND according to the outcomes reports.
Also, before you trash ND, this is just my safety school that I've gotten into. I'll hear back from everything else in 3 months.
