NYC - Fastest Recovery from Covid-19?

Hey monkeys,

Do you think it's possible that NYC recovers the fastest from the virus? I realize that they are by far in the worst shape right now when you look at cases, deaths, etc.. but shouldn't that mean that the peak of the outbreak comes sooner than other states? Not to mention the extra supplies, tests, and other resources being concentrated in NY, along with the population taking the crisis more seriously.

It may be wishful thinking bc I don't want my internship to be canceled, but I feel like there is a real chance NYC can return to normalcy faster than most other areas. Is there anything wrong with this line of thinking?

Ok. Either way I disagree for the reason mentioned above.

I think things will definitely get worse before getting better, but we have until June before internships starts and I think there will be stable procedures in place by then for social distancing, sanitation, etc. hopefully.

I really can’t see things in NY getting better until June, and that’s a bit optimistic IMO. Right now, Europe looks like it’s slowing down incrementally, and Europe is probably about 2-3 weeks ahead of the US (countries like Italy/Spain which saw infection rates skyrocket in late Feb/early Mar). It’s also total lockdown in Europe’s hardest hit areas whereas we’re not seeing the same response in NY. Frankly I’m pretty concerned with the US gov’s response to this so far.

Yes, if you have been following the press conferences every day then you will see how Dr Birx and Fauci have demonstrated "the curve"- Washington State and NY were hit first so they are later in the curve and will reach peak in about a couple weeks- at which point the number of deaths and cases will gradually decrease and then exponentially decrease. Other areas, such as Michigan and Louisiana are only now beginning to have their "curve" started- this means they will take recover later in the season get to the point where NY is- however NY will still have more deaths in absolute value due to the population size.

Idk, i think new York has a really high risk regardless. Cities have such high population density, and this is incredibly infectious. We still don't have a vaccine and even though they say phase one testing is starting soon, think about SARS, MERS, HIV, those have been around for much longer and they don't have a cure. We could think it's back to normal but if one person was asymptomatic, we can start this infection all over again.

I think life is gonna be different for quite some time
