NYU Econ vs UMich Stat

Dear,

I am an international student gunning for IB (or even consulting. Not yet made up my mind). I'm transferring from non-target as a sophomore soon, and I found choosing a major and school hard to decide. (Columbia GS, Cornell Econ not decided yet) Suppose I don't get either of these ivies, and I have to choose between NYU CAS and UMich LSA (neither of them being Stern nor Ross). Visa is a big thing for me, and NYU Econ gives me STEM, whereas UMich Econ doesn't.

I thought Stat might be useful in my further career as I should have a quantitative skillset (using regression and finding outliers, etc). However, I am certainly not a math guy. I am taking Calc 1 and I don't love it, and this course is a joke compared to further courses in Stat.

I feel like I like both schools for different reasons, but UMich is slightly more attractive to me. Do you think I should go for UMich Stat (or Econ) instead of NYU Econ?

As far as I know... econ majors at NYU and UMich don't fare too well since both colleges have a UG biz school.

Networking might be better @ NYU since you'd be in NYC. UMich would probably give you a better traditional college experience, if that's what you're looking for.

What would you say if I go for NYU Econ and network hard? I have done networking here in the Midwest, but I don't understand from my experience how networking can get me a job. Every internship opportunity I had was from cold-emailing. Please note I am gunning for IB or MC after graduation.

I wonder where you get your info from. I graduated from NYU Econ in the last 1-2 years and have done well. Have many friends that did too.

OP: It is STEM and math intensive. Very abtract math, even in the policy concentration. It was challenging but fun and I'm glad I did it. Seriously, if you want to be in IB/finance, then NYU is an absolute no-brainer. New York is incredible and a great place to live.

You've got to think a lot about your GPA. Since NYU econ is stem, I can imagine It'd be quite math intensive and since you say your not a math person, I'd say you should really think about it. But truly, nothing is impossible. You could brush up your math skills in advance. I really don't believe in the whole "Im not a math/STEM person" thing
