Oaktree / Brookfield Cost Synergies

A friend with connections to Oaktree has been told that the teams that have been made redundant will eventually (within the next 5 years) be spun down so as not to compete with Brookfield's own funds (like the special sits fund they run that has a similar mandate to one of Oaktree's). In practice, I'd assume this means that they would stop raising new funds under the Oaktree moniker. Has heard anything to this effect?

For sure, I guess I'm just surprised that it doesn't come up in the Oaktree threads. If I was recruiting there I think I'd be pretty concerned about the possible implications.

This would indicate that it would be advantageous to recruit with Brookfield rather than Oaktree where you won't be one of "their guys"
