Offer on the table - your thoughts?

Hey guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I recently went through an interview process at a reputable alternative AM and have been successful in securing an offer. Associate level role within their direct lending team, mainly focused around monitoring and general portfolio management/reporting on top of fund raising and some ad-hoc financial/market research.

Would appreciate any thoughts from you guys already in the field about these kind of roles and what the growth trajectory is? I currently work at a Tier 1 bank in the middle office, but believe I'm strongly positioned for a future opening next year in the front office. That being said, this is all speculation and hiring might freeze.. This role will require me to take a slight reduction in my base, but bonus will make up for it (considerably higher than what I get now).

In two minds right now. Love the company, culture and people but a bit apprehensive about the step back and possibly giving up the opportunity to move to the FO internally. Seems like great experience on hand from the firm to be honest as I will be involved in all stages of the direct lending process. Anyone in a similar role who can shed some light on general working experience?

Thanks!

Depends on your end-goal: Long-term do you want to be MO at an asset manager or FO at a bank? Think your answer to that question should tell you everything you need to know.

Agree. Unless you're desperate for a short term comp bump through bonus your career path should be the most important thing. Is taking you down a path you want to go or not?
