Oil Major corp fin experience, looking to succeed!
I am looking to break into IB....I guess I want to know how realistic my chances are??
I work for one of the major Oil companies (chevron, conocophillips, total, etc.) in the finance function. My experience is on my resume. I have some leadership experience as well. I want to break into IB before I go for my MBA but I'm not sure if it will be possible given that I have already been in my current role for more than a year now.
Realistically do I have a solid chance of breaking into IB or should I continue at this job and hope for the best after getting a top MBA (in Texas)?
I guess what I really want to know is that will IB's find my resume even remotely appealing?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Did you already speak to guys like RBC and BMO? RBC just posted this a week ago:

Credit Suisse also posted an opening recently for lateral, but unfortunately that'd be a bit of a reach for your situation. Simmons has some analysts that were laterals with non-IBD backgrounds. Though they started up an SA program last year so probably not so much anymore. Try all the boutiques, like Gulfstar?
What are your aspirations post-MBA?
OGBanker you're baller dude.
I feel like I've been able to accumulate pretty decent experience here thus far. But after speaking to a very rude IB recruiter yesterday my confidence took a hit (this guy was a dick). He contacted me for a Corporate Strategy role at an oil company in Dallas then pretty much told me on the phone that I did not qualify AT ALL. I was like fuck you too then (didn't really say that but yea..)
My aspirations for post-MBA would be to either be in PE or in Business Development/Strategy Planning at either the company I'm at or some other Big Oil company.
It seems to me that its harder at my company to lateral into these roles than it is to come in externally. I spoke with a Strategy guy at my company a few months ago who had a pretty impressive resume (worked as MD for GS and had a real estate firm in Africa). The guy seemed like he had his shit together for sure. He told me that considering IB right now would not be a bad idea.
I want to avoid working shitty accounting rotations at all costs which is why I'm tying to jump to IB now before MBA so I can have a solid shot at moving into that PE or Big Oil BD position post-MBA.
I just need lady luck to start showing me some love...
