Oil&Gas vs Consumer&Retail - which industry group better for PE?

Guys,

Which industry group would be better for future PE exit opportunities?

Am I correct that Oil&Gas is largely irrelevant for PE career?

Are the models used in O&G very different compared to other industries?

Thanks

Honestly, I think you will see a lot of dealflow in Oil and Gas over the next couple of years. In terms of PE ops, doing Oil and Gas will make you very attractive to energy-focused PE firm. Consumer and Retail will probably make you more attractive to a broad-focus PE shop. I think you will find more competition, but also more options coming out of Consumer.

We do work with a large PE firm focused on the Energy sector and they know their shit when it comes to oil and gas. Becoming an expert in that sector would make you very attractive to a firm like that.
