Oliver Wyman contacts

hey guys

so I recently applied to Oliver Wyman for some entry level position. I have not heard back yet.

I come from a non-target state school but I do have a decent GPA and some decent experience as I have been interning this semester at a boutique firm. Still I don't think I have a good chance of netting an interview.
I have reached out to a bunch of consultants that work there on linkedin and email but have not had success yet as no one has responded to any emails I have sent.

I was wondering if any of you guys can help me out if you guys have any contacts at OW in NY. It would greatly help me out as I am still trying to find a FT job.

thanks in advance

this is the format that I use. Its gotten me results in terms of responses when i sent them to upper associates at BBs but I have had no success here.

Dear Mr. ________,

My name is ______ and I am currently a senior at ______ University who is majoring in Economics and Political Science seeking a full time job. I hope you do not find this email intrusive or repetitive as I believe you probably receive many e-mails of this sort. I found your name by looking for associates at Oliver Wyman via Linkedin. I'm looking to break into the financial services and management consulting field and would love some advice from an insider. I would be interested in setting up a short meeting or a phone call at your convenience, perhaps I can offer you a coffee. I know that you are very busy especially with all the travel that is involved, and I am more than willing to adjust to your schedule. I have attached my resume for your reference. Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Best,

this is the format that I have been using. Someone said that it is a bit wordy and long but I have had some success in the past. So i figured I'd post in the consulting section. Thanks for the advise guys.

Best Response

Its a shit email bro. I found my job by cold emailing so I speak from experience. Include the following, and paste the new version in here again if you want comments:

  • Talk about how you are a stellar student at your university. You better be Dean's List every semester if you come from a non target.
  • Talk about all of your relevant work ex, and how it could directly assist OW and its ways of doing things.
  • Great advice above - find a common ground (e.g. Oh you lived in Japan etc)
  • Don't mention you stalked them on Linkedin. Only do so if they ask how you got their email. Just act cool and don't reveal all your cards. Let them think you're on the 'inside' and got their email through someone who already works at OW.
  • DO attach your resume. Ultimately, your resume is make or break. Might as well get that out of the way. They will have a look at your resume (everyone loves looking at others' resumes). If it's good, then you can maybe get an interview. If it is not upto par, then at least you guys can quit the pre-interview foreplay and move on.

All the best. But know that your current email is not good enough to get responses, esp responses that eventually lead to interviews.

Cheers.

If you were applying to banking then I would keep your e-mail very short (2-3 lines). Since you're writing to a consulting firm, you could write a full paragraph. Take the advice of the group and skip the foreplay. A sentance to introduce yourself. Two-Three explaining your interest and match to OW and then 1 concluding. I would always attach the resume because it's just annoying having to ask for it.
