OMG would I lose my offer over this?
I recently got a 6 month contract offer which I'm starting in a few weeks.
I was looking for housing today, and the place asked for employment confirmation.
Since I didn't start yet and needed a place right away, I gave them a copy of my contract offer and the name of the HR person they can confirm with.
The phone # on the letter head, was the VP of the firm in the department I'll be working in (he's the one who signed the offer letter) instead of the firm's general info number :-O
I'll call the housing people first thing tomorrow to tell them about the HR #, but it may be too late (the contact at the housing place may not have come to work before the other staff call the firm)
Would I get in trouble for:
1)Giving out a copy of the job contract to the housing people? It didn't say confidential, but what's the general consensus on this?
2)"Bothering" the VP of the firm (in case the housing people call him before I can tell them not to and give them the HR phone # instead)?
I'm scared they might cancel the offer over this.
Am I being paranoid here? Or could something bad actually happen due to my dumb mistake here?
Relax. You will definitely not get your offer revoked for something stupid like this, although you should be more careful in the future.
Dude you're tripping out. Someone at the VP level in HR is not that high up. People are required to give copies of offer letters all the time. If anything, just let things be. Calling HR and making a big deal out of it will just make people think you're weird.
VP of the department I'm working in... not the VP of HR. Hence why I'm worried since I haven't even met him yet I interviewed with managers two whole levels below him :-O
HR cannot revoke an offer just because they feel like it. The do background checks and unless you get dinged on on of the pre hire no no's the ultimate decision is with the bankers. Be more careful next time and give the rental place a call and straighten it out.
I'll be calling the rental place first thing in the morning (I'll be up before they get to work) until I get through. I'm just worried someone else at the rental place will call the contacts before I can get through (the rental person sent it to head office somewhere to get checked).
If he is that big of a deal, the call is going to his Admin.
I agree with brick, no worries.
But I want to thank you all guys and gals for reassuring me here :)
One thing that hasn't been addressed yet... is the job offer considered confidential? More importantly would I get in trouble for giving a copy of it out to confirm my employment to the housing people?
No No's are failing a drug test, lying about your GPA, having extremely F'ed up credit ( in the off chance they check it) lying about a past job, things like that. This was a faux pas, relax.
