Operations Interview (Buy-side vs Sell-side)

Hi there,

Are there any differences in operations in a buy-side firm vs sell-side?

I was wondering how I should answer for my operations role interview if they ask me why I'm interested in buy-side (the company is a fund management company).

Thank you for your help!

shouldn't be that much difference except the culture of the firm. talk about how you want to be at a place that is smaller and more nimble with less structure in place so that you can really have an impact on operational excellence

I recently had an interview with a distinguished sell side firm. I would say that the sell side interview I had was all business. No cracking jokes or getting to know each other. In all honesty, my interview felt very stiff. My buy side interview was more relaxed, it was a good mix of standard questions but felt more like a conversation with a friend to me. Again this was my experience. I would still prep the same for both. Good luck!
