Opinion on Stock Broker Trainee Program
Hey guys,
I am currently a sophomore at a semi-target, I began my search for summer 2014 internships recently. So far I was called to interview for a stockbroker trainee program in Manhattan. I do not believe it's a boiler room operation, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I applied through my college's career site and I must've missed that it stated Bachelor Degree Required. My resume does say expected grad May 2016, and when he called I noted that "I did not graduate yet and am still in college" I did not say I was a sophomore in college. He told me that Thats no issue and that the firm is aggressively expanding. Is it unusual for a firm to interview a sophomore for a broker trainee program? What kind of questions should I expect? My knowledge of Finance is very weak, but am an expected level for a sophomore. What am I expected to know?
Thanks, any tips are appreciated.
You should probably stay away if they are this careless with details. I would understand if it was a summer trainee program.
Just do it - it's good interview practice. Forget about the movie boiler room, it rarely happens in real life....... Worst case: you'll be cold calling the entire world for leads, that's excellent experience.
Any idea what I am expected to know?
What firm is it?
EJ Sterling is the firm
Don't bother with it. Not worth your time.
^ Why so?
This.
it's better than nothing
Don't do it. You can always find something better just by doing a little networking. Plus these guys look like scam artists anyway.
Thanks for everyone's input. I'm going to call and cancel my interview. I will learn to network for a PWM internship and take it from there.
Go on the interview. It can't hurt to gain some interview experience
To tell him what at the end? That I am not interested?
Go through the interview process as you would with any firm. If you get an offer and you don't want to accept it, there is no need to.
