OPT start date?

Hi all,

I am an international student and will be working at a BB in NYC after graduation. I will be applying for OPT with an OPT start date of late June-early July. The thing is I am scheduled to have training in London sometime in July, and return to the US later to the New York office. Was unsure about three points:

1) I believe the last date from which OPT can be requested to start is 60 days after graduation, so requesting it to start in late June-early July is the right thing to do, correct?

2) How am I able to work in the UK, that is my status going to be during the training? I might have OPT in the US, and when I come back would be on OPT (or H-1B see below), but I don't know how I can work in the UK? Does anyone have similar experience?

3) There is a chance my employer could file an H-1B petition in late May, and if that goes through I would have H-1B status as of mid-June. In this case, is my OPT canceled?

I don't know about the London training part, but be sure to ask beforehand as they will probably need to arrange for a special visa (there short term training visas and shit) If I were you I'd just apply for OPT starting on July 4th, or whatever your first day is. Just seems safer. Also fyi H1-B will become active only at the start of next fiscal year - october 1st. So even if you are granted H1 in May, you will have to remain in OPT status at least through september. good luck
