Options Unavailable Post Bschool

Hey guys, I wanted to get your opinion on what are some industries that are extremely hard to break into, if you do not have experience in them before Bschool. PE is one that immediately comes to mind, also a few Hedge Funds that recruit 2IB+2PE+Bschool. Would love to hear your thoughts on other industries that are virtually closed off

The reason for bringing up this question is that while I can continue full-time in IB, I have an offer from Corporate Banking as well, where the hours are substantially better. Wanted to know before I made the decision, as I would rather not work 100 hour weeks in my 20s, and still want the ability to reset after Bschool

If you don't have pre-MBA experience in VC, you have little to no chance of breaking in post-MBA (unless you attend Harvard or Stanford). I will say that if you're already working in VC, there's little reason to go to business school. None of my peers plan on doing an MBA

Not true, you can break into lower tier VC funds from any of the M7, or even T15. For the top tier ones, they would generally ask that you have pre-MBA VC experience, or a domain expert (aka MD or PHD or something) in their specific investing sector. But yes generally Harvard, Stanford and Wharton are your best bet for the top tier ones. Here's some info a redditor collected (Wharton #s include MBAs and UGs, but both alums will be part of the network that Wharton students can tap into since there's cohesion between the UG and MBA programs):

General Catalyst (5 Wharton MBAs, 9 HBS, 2 GSB)

Bessemer (10 Wharton, 15 HBS, 7 GSB)

Accel (8 Wharton, 15 HBS, 12 GSB)

Sequioa: (16 Wharton, 22 HBS, 22 GSB)

Andreessen: (11 Wharton, 11 HBS, 18 GSB)

Lightspeed (8 Wharton, 11 HBS, 18 GSB)

Insight Partners (37 Wharton, 13 HBS, 3 GSB)

I think a few LO AMs in addition also require prior experience in order to break in after an MBA. Seems like a lot of investing roles require prior experience, but any other industries that come to mind?

I could be wrong but basically all of them are in finance (certain HF's, PE, AM's). VC is an outlier because you can technically join as a partner if you have a really impressive track record as an executive, or are a well known leader in that sector.

Biotech oriented roles generally have a slightly higher barrier to entry for those without experience/background but are still feasible.

I'm sure we are all missing something so I'd like to bump this post too.

Appreciate the bump. In the same vein as biotech, a lot of the product management roles may also require an engineering background to get into post Bschool. If any others come to mind, please do add to this post

Also something that I have noticed, if you're an international having buyside experience pre MBA, and want to break into buyside in the US post MBA - it seems this is still very difficult to do as domestic candidates are preferred. Makes you think if you want to live in the US long term, does it make sense working insane hours pre MBA for essentially not much gained in terms of post MBA options?
