Organize my Networking Effots

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is having a strong start to the month. I am currently a sophomore (completed M&A IB internship last summer) at a non-target trying to break into a BB IB rotational program this summer. I do not meet the diversity requirements for diversity targeted sophomore programs. This has left me in a situation that requires a massive amount of networking. Through friends and family I actually have a decent network of people who are or have worked at BB firms or know of someone who is willing to speak to me. Been emailing and calling non-stop and I have a pretty good system for organizing the emails.

The issue I am running into is trying to juggle 10 ongoing conversations, I do not have a great way to organize the notes or create a system to set times to follow up a few weeks later etc. after the initial follow up. I was wondering if anyone designed a solid excel system or any other method of keeping everything in one place and easy to look at so I know what my next move should be.

Thanks for any tips! Also if we can keep the "you should transfer to a target or semi target" comments to a minimum that would be awesome.

Think critically about how to organize an Excel sheet to enable you to keep track of networking. As an aspiring banker you should be able to do that.

Organize rows by firm your contacts work at, and columns should, among many, include: name, email, position, contacted?, replied?, Date of Next Interaction, Summary of Interactions

Thanks for the tips. Figured I would reach out to the IB guys on the site considering a lot of you are much better at Excel then I am. Was thinking of making some sort of macro so it would change colors depending on how long it has been since the last correspondence, but I am not good enough with Excel yet to write something on that level.
