Outlook for someone in small-ish coverage?
Hey guys, I'm not a banker and until recently wasn't particularly interested, although I saw a position regarding a specific industry coverage and I applied. I actually have a 'phone screening' now for what I think is a decent bank, although I don't know where it stands because I don't know anything about banks other than GS/JPM/MS and it is none of those three. If I had to 'place it' I'd put it among Piper/HSBC/RBC/CIBC.
My question, what are the exit opportunities for someone at a bank such as those four listed with (small-ish) industry specific coverage? I would imagine PE/HF is a bit out of the question being that most of those guys come from the large BB's.
So B-School? I don't have a great GPA (~3.4) so a top b-school is out of the question, although I am not concerned with prestige as much as I am with having a job, so if there is a decent program I wouldn't be against it.
What happens to analysts who can't go to a (good) business school and come from a bank listed above? Is there a path that leads to them staying analysts longer and moving up from there, or is that role kind of carved out to only be a 2-3 year stint?
Thanks guys, I'm sure some of these are quite obvious, but I appreciate the help.
