Overcoming a Bad Gpa
Hey guys! I recently got interested in IB last summer before my Junior Year. I was super late to the recruiting game and go to a non-target SEC school. I ended up not being able to land anything for summer but have had a fall internship and a winter/spring internship at 2 boutique investment banks. I am a athlete and I hold multiple leadership positions in a couple finance clubs run by the school. I think I will be able to lock down a summer position at another boutique bank but was wondering if my gpa stays around a 3.3/3.4 would my other experiences outweigh the gpa for FT recruiting at larger banks?
nope as long as you network have your story down and know your technical you should be fine.
its easier to get into MM/international with that that gpa than a BB or EB,
Just network your ass off and make sure your resume is super clean and flawless. Being an athlete will help a ton when it comes to a low GPA. Also if your finance/econ GPA is higher, highlight that through a "major GPA" or something.
Make sure you lock something down for junior year ASAP and then immediately start networking for FT at larger banks. All of this will get you through the initial screens, at which point you'll just have to make sure your interview game is polished (even moreso than everyone else). It sucks, but sometimes you've just got to overcompensate and hope it pays off. Good luck!
See if you can find some alums from your team (or at least school) at bigger banks. 3.3 at SEC non-target doesn’t exactly scream Goldman.
you think its possible with hard networking, 3.3 Non target at a major city with ST internship, land at BB or decent MM?
Don't want to feed any wrong info, but have a friend who went to non to semi target with 3.2 and landed at SA with top MM.
got it thanks, i go to non target but have good amount of alums,
