If you failed to include an internship or job then I am pretty sure it is no big deal. It is whether you make up the fact that you did work for an employer that you did not actually do that would get your offer rescinded. I am pretty sure they have no way of knowing that you did an internship especially if you did not list it.
You're fine. Keep in mind, even if you "fail" a background check, most companies will give you an opportunity to edit the details that you included on your application. They won't just rescind your offer.
Note: this applies only to minor details (i.e. employment dates were off a month here or there, etc.). I've been told by HR that there is usually an "acceptable band", such that if you are "close enough", they won't bother bringing it up. Again, this does not apply to more serious, intentional ommissions/fabrications.
Unless that one month internship 5 years ago had you killing babies, I think you'll be okay.
HR just wants to verify the employment that you listed on your resume. Just because you didn't list every job you've ever held, doesn't mean that you'll be "found out". And no, your offer won't be rescinded just because you left out some detail on your background check.
Thanks everyone. I am also curious if HR actually sees the information or not. My background check is going through a third party. Do you think they show the details to HR or just notify them of any funny business?
