Ownership vs Cash
The owner of a bio manufacturing company I assisted with selecting a site and setting up wants to poach me from my employer. I told her to hold that conversation until March, so we're revisiting then. I'd be the chief real estate officer with secondary biz development duties.
It's a privately-owned bio manufacturer that turns animal waste into consumer products, and I'm guessing that she'll offer a combo of a smaller equity stake along with cash. It's a growth stage startup that's a couple of months from going to market. She has no intention of getting VC and/or going public. Financials show 1m profit year 1, 2m profit years 2 and 3. Then peaking at 6m by year 5.
My question is; what sounds like a reasonable salary to equity combo? $150k and 2%? $125k and 1.5%?
I've never negotiated for this type of position before so I'm open to suggestions.....most examples I see online are for app outfits that are going public.
Thanks!
