Any boot recommendations (for business-professional wear)?
Looking for any boot recommendations that go well with a nice pair of slacks and sport coat/blazer. Thinking of buying a pair now while there are sales before fall/winter rolls around.
I have a pair of chelsea boots, but I find them too sleek/trendy. I also have the J. Crew version of Alden Indy boots but I find moc-toes to be too casual.
I do like chukkas, but I only find them to look good if your pants have a tight taper.
As you can see I am very picky, but I'm curious to see what kind of boots you all wear in the office.
Frye Ropers are my go-to. I've been debating getting some lucchese gator boots, but they're a bit pricy...
Lucchese
There number of online sites available of boots like Zappos, shoes, racked and similar sites, where you can buy designer and stylish boots.
I'm aware, I was looking for specific recommendations.
Yeah, I already told you some sites. I didn't have much idea about that sites.
I would check out the Johnston & Murphy Conrad wingtip boots.
Allen Edmonds has $100 off their Higgins Mill boot right now.
Oxford Boots (Originally Posted: 01/04/2016)
Are oxford or balmoral boots acceptable on wall street/the city? I'm talking about something like the below for interviews (IBD not S&T where dress codes are less formal).
or a derby boot even
Seems that most people that i've worked with or seen on the street wear the atypical low cut oxford or derbies even during fall or winter. Are boots generally not de rigueur in banking?
Asking as my ankle is pretty messed up from playing football and now can only wear boots without sharp pains.
Shoepassion model is more acceptable especially during fall & winter. It's a classic last model and I highly recommend shoepassion. Great bang for the buck. Just make sure you put rubber on your sole for the winter because the soles will be slippery in winter and would get wrecked with rain. If you are in London do that to protect your ankles from damage due to slipping.
I'd also consider those if I were you. First pair is full brogue and still classic but less casual. The second is a classical clean captoe.

I would not wear a chukka even if it's a dressier one. I have a pair of similar dressier chukka boots but rarely wear it to work. They are acceptable in fall but especially for IB too casual.
Finally, what's your budget? I might be able to help with other shoemakers once I know the range.
I recently started wearing boots as a 1st year analyst. Haven't encountered any issues. For interviews I'd keep conservative and wear normal dress shoes though.
Hey, thanks for the replies. Problem with the second pair is that its a derby closure rather than oxford, which is inherently more casual.
Quite tough finding a nice clean captoe oxford/balmoral boot in the market apart from going bespoke/MTO.
As for my budget its about £500, any higher and its better to go bespoke I'm guessing. Viewing this as a long term investment and something that I will be able to use for the next decade or so.
Thanks again for your help.
Boots in H-Town (Originally Posted: 02/04/2013)
Do people wear nice exotic boots to work in Houston? Or are boots reserved for casual Fridays only?
Not trolling, genuinely curious as I know that there are some really expensive, really nice pairs of boots out there that I could see being worn in an office environment, especially in Texas.
People wear em everyday. They dont even have to be exotics/expensive; a simple pair of ropers would do, as long as they're clean and polished.
I've always been curious what would happen if I walked in the office in New York with a pair of shit-kickers on. I'm going to have to try it some time.
I do this on Fridays with my beat-to-hell-shit-kickers. Gotten a few weird looks, but fuck em, I'm from Texas. Women seem to love em....
I'm probably dating myself here, but when I hear "boots" and "H-town," this is what comes to mind:
I wear boots to the office every day. I also wear them when I go to our other offices. I actually get many complements on them.
No unless your bank's culture allows it.
Just make sure you got flames 'n shit on 'em.
Im guessing boots are more suitable for biz casual than formal? Or do you guys rock boots with a suit too?
Yes. As do lots of people - go for a darker color, and again, make sure theyre nice and clean.
Western Dress Boots (Originally Posted: 11/22/2016)
What do you guys think about wearing black western dress boots to work? I love my Lucchese's, and I can't help but ponder the concept of wearing some dress boots to work. I obviously work in the South, or I wouldn't bother asking. What are your thoughts? How acceptable? How high on the totem pole before giving this a shot? Any recommended boots?
In the south- fine IMO
Why don't you ask your superior(s)? I'm a Midwesterner, and I love my fair share of boots...but not in the office.
What Would Alan Do? Well...this was in 1995, and it looks cheesy as hell now. But I'd never tell that to his face, because he's the fucking man.
I love my boots, but never in the office.
that being said, I don't work in texas
It's very common where i work. . in Texas. Just make sure you are matching.
I am a native Texan, and I will never wear boots with a suit. I love boots, but unfortunately, when I see one wearing boots with a suit, I assume that they are less intelligent.
Native Texan here too. Agree 100%.
bolo tie or bust
Plenty of people wear dress boots to the office in my city. It's personal preference unless your bank has a policy against it (which sounds odd to me, but hey, you never know).
Maybe not your first week or two until you get a lay of the land though.
If your firm allows you to go a little bit more casual on Friday (aka jeans), some Ostrich boots work in my opinion
these look sick / real clean
not familiar with the brand, but it came up on my facebook feed
