Oxford PPE for ibanking on Wall Street?
Hey guys..
I know the most heavily recruited American universities for Wall Street are Harvard, Penn, Princeton, etc.
Would a PPE degree at Oxford give me any chance of getting a job in ibanking on Wall Street or would I be forced to start off in England? Obviously Oxford PPE'ers get tons of job offers in England, but what if I want to work in the US?
I'm actually a senior in high school so I'm not too sure how recruiting works.. can I just show up on Wall Street with a PPE degree and start asking around for interviews, or is it strictly through my uni?
And a follow-up question - how would Oxford PPE compare to Cornell AEM (for undergrad of course) in terms of job prospects after college?
Thanks!
Naturally, Oxford would position you better for recruiting in London. Are you a U.S. citizen?
Yes I'm a US citizen, so no barriers there. I went to high school in the US but spent a year in England so I know how it all goes down there.
I applied to many top schools this year but only got into Cornell. Obviously it's a decent target school but it's not a very glamorous name (I was hoping for HYP/Penn) so that's why I was thinking of applying to Oxford for 2016 entry. Granted, it is Cornell AEM but still.. Oxford's up there with HYP in terms of glamor and wherever I choose to go in the future I think an Oxford degree would bring more benefits than a Cornell degree, right?
Lol in terms of "glamour".
Haha you know what I mean
wtf ok..
Are you really asking if Oxford will give you better Wall Street ops than Cornell? Come on. Think this one through.
You didn't even get into Oxford yet. Go to Cornell.
"Think this one through"
Well one is more prestigious and one is closer to Wall Street. It's a little difficult for someone who's never been exposed to the actual world of wall street to figure out which factor carries more weight, hence why I asked.
Think about junior year interviews. Do you want to fly across the Atlantic ocean every time someone from Wall Street wants to talk to you? Or drive 4 hours downstate? Proximity is a pretty big consideration when it comes to picking schools. Even within the US it's a big factor-- i.e. picking Stanford over Harvard if you want to work in San Francisco or something.
I see. Thank you.
This is all hypothetical considering you haven't gotten into Oxford yet.

Would PPE at Oxford be a good degree for Investment Banking or am I better off going for Economics & Management also at Oxford? Thanks.
Doesn't matter, pick whichever you are more interested in.
