Slacks for Men with Big Buts, Big Hips, and Big Thighs

Boys,

Can you recommend some pants that fit someone with muscular thighs, wide hips, a big ass, and small calves/ankles? I played hockey and golf growing up and everyone always told me I had the stereotypical hockey/golf butt. I didn't understand what that meant until a few years ago when buying clothes that actually fit.

The issue(s):
- I have a 32in waist, but I usually have to wear a 34 because of my butt/hips. This sometimes leads to a super sloppy look, pants bunching etc..
- When I buy pants that are 'tapered fit' or whatever, a lot of the time they are so tight on my thighs/butt that I can't wear them, its like skinny jeans up top and regular pants at the bottom.
- A lot of the time I have to buy pants that are more of a straight fit, which end up being huge around my calves/ankles and have to get them taken in at the peg from the knee down. The tailor I have is decent but it is a huge pain and kind of pricey to keep doing that.

I had found a pair of chinos at J. Crew I thought fit well, then I bought the same pair different color and they were basically skinny jeans.

Thanks

Tailoring Pants for Men with Large Thighs

For men with non-standard body types, finding pants to fit can be a real challenge. With that in mind, our users shared some places that you can find pants off the rack and offered advice about tailoring.

DrRollTide - Sales and Trading Vice President:
Go to Jos A. Bank and get the Travelers fit pants.

LeveredBetaBoy - Investment Advisor Analyst:
I have an almost identical build to you, so I feel your pain. In my experience, you'll just have to resign yourself to getting all of your clothes tailored. I've had good luck with some of the Suit Supply pant fits, only need to have the waist taken in a bit and the legs hemmed. Some of their pants also come with side adjusters, which are a godsend. Ermengildo Zegna also makes a great stretch chino, I'm a 31-32 waist and order a 34 which fits perfect in thighs and seat. Incotex makes a great pant, just avoid the extra slim fits and you should be fine. Similar in sizing to the EZ stretch chinos. The Brooks Brothers Milano fit can be a bit hit or miss, but I have had some luck there.

Jeans for Big Thighs - Mens

The same problem exists for men when buying jeans. Our users shared their advice below.

Lunchbox12:
Levi's Athletic Fit have worked well for me.

Carry The Interest - Sales and Trading Analyst:
I have the same issue. Got a pair of Banana Republic Traveler's jeans that are fantastic. They have some stretch in them which helps with the THICCness.

conyak:
RRL fits fairly well if you want to drop that much coin. I also tried the Jcrew 770 and then had the leg, beneath the calve tapered a bit. Gap is very inconsistent with their sizing so I stay away from them in general. Another trick is that I often try the skinny fit but then size up, for example if im a 32 x 32, id size up to 34x32 to get more room in the leg area.

THICC crew checking in. Same issues here. Jeans are the worst since the expectation is that something will fit off the rack. I get a normal fit and from the waist down I'm looking like Nicki Minaj in jeggings, or I get a straight or relaxed fit and I'm looking like Melissa Etheridge in JNCOs. I have one pair of jeans that I can actually wear and that's only because I spent $35 getting a pair of $25 American Eagles tailored.

Any off the rack jean fit recommendations for us steatopygians?

+1 for thicc bois. I have the same issue with denim, I've been wearing the same rotation of 3 jeans for years because I can't find anything that fits me like these do. The Levi's taper was great but idk if they make that style anymore. RRL fits fairly well if you want to drop that much coin. For off the rack stuff that's easily attainable:

Levis Athletic fit jeans Ralph Lauren jeans and pants Dillards brand dress pants and chinos Haggar cool pro pants

I don't spend more than like $100 on any pair of pants besides suit pants because I go through them fairly quickly

Basically if you want pants of any type that require little/no tailoring, look for them to have stretch material which all of the above do

If you find pants you like with no stretch, just get the one that fits your butt and have the waist brought in - it sucks but its worth it

Keep in mind that most if not all mass produced pants today will always have slight size variations because of different manufacturing sites - try on a few and don't be fooled by the one pair you try on

I'm in the low 40s sizes cause of football and have probably spent dozens of hours researching/trying pants - it sucks

Bonobos athletic fit for chinos / dress pants would be my recommendation. Roomy in the legs, with a really aggressive taper to the ankles (they actually have smaller leg openings than Bonobo's slim fit). I wear them myself, have a 32 inch waist like you, and was told by the last girl I dated that the first thing she noticed about me was how muscular my thighs looked, for some perspective.

I second this. Could never find pants that fit well until I tried Bonobos. Lots of different fits and sizes. You'll find your fit, but may take some trial and error.

that's not a thing, man. have you been on a golf course? have you tried on golf pants? have you seen Jordan Spieth? golf butt. come ON.

This is what I do. Works for me. YMMV.

This is very true. However, you still have to be cautious. Nothing like getting in a car and feeling the rip. I have had it happen to me once, 5 month old suit.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.

I am a thick fellow myself with big legs, cus i played basketball 7 years and martial arts for 15! My problem is more on the belly area as i like some pizza nad beer here and there! So it is not easy to find a nice fit pants that doesn't make my belly look too big.

Lol those 375lb squats caused this to happen to me.

Was always a chicken legged dude growing up and then after I started working out consistently and eating a lot to bulk up I developed the same issue and had to throw away a lot of my slim-fit work pants.

From what I've heard the Bonobos Athletic fit are good. I'm 32in waist as well, and the bagginess below the knees is irritating. However these pants are supposed to have an aggressive taper at the bottom.

Haven't tried them yet, but they have a show room in my city so worth a look.

All the pants I've ordered made-to-measure from Indochino have been excellent.

Just wanted to mention that I got a little chuckle out of this. Welcome to the pants world of most women. Too lose on the waist too tight on the butt/hips/thighs. Sorry to hear there is no male equivalent to women's "curry fit" pants. The gender gap grows smaller.

Like the unadjusted- only with a little bit extra.

Also a hockey guy here, 6'4 ~230, thicc glutes/thighs. Took me years to find the right fit in a pair of jeans but now the only ones I buy are AG, and the style is The Protege. A bit pricey at ~$180 if you can't find them on sale, but I'm a firm believer in buying high quality clothes if you're going to get good use out of them. Another great pair of pants is the ABC pant by Lulu, they will change your life - they can be worn business casual, out on the town or on the golf course as they are made from a performance type material. Again, a pair of those will run you ~$140 but if you're willing to fork it over you will not regret it and the fit is impeccable.

I understand your frustration. I do DCM by day, but do amateur competitive weightlifting by night. This means I buy 40inch waist pants and then tailor down the waist to fit around my muscular thighs. Was buying a new suit yesterday and 38 inches was almost ok on the waist (could have been a bit narrower) but too tight on the thighs.

(I'm in London so brand references are to UK stores)

In the last 1.5 years I've gone through 5 sets of pants that I've worn out the crotch on (4 were from TM Lewin, 1 from M&S). Although I always buy 2 sets of pants with a suit so I can alternate both those as well as suits, it's not enough and suits don't last more than 9 months with me. There was one really nice TM Lewin suit I had where I went into store to ask if they could repair, they said it was too far down the line. When I inquired about buying an extra pair, they said they don't make that any more......and that was £200 gone.

Recently had to buy an extra set of pants for another TM Lewin suit because the existing ones were too destroyed, and threw away £200 of pants. Was lucky they still sold this suit. Weightlifting is great for keeping me in shape and helping with the ladies, but its a wallet killer when it comes to suits.

I did try switching to Hawes and Curtis but only got marginally better endurance out of them. As the crotch started thinning out, I've taken them into store to get a saddle put in (i.e extra padding around the crotch). Now trying Charles Tyrwhitt to see if their suits are any better.

What shocks me is that pre-banking when I was just an audit trainee at a Big Four and went to cheaper places like M&S to get my suits, the crotch endurance on those was far better and they were cheaper. Only downside was that those suits don't look as nice.

What are some good stores in London for suits that both look very City/Canary Wharf but also have endurance?

fellow THICCBOIS in this thread, I played catcher in baseball for 10 years, so I feel all your pain, I can't help much with dress pants, other than a tailor, but for jeans when you're not at work, I absolutely love Lucky Brand 410's athletic fit, not skin tight on your ass and and thighs, but they don't look like fat people pants at the calf/ankle.
