What are your thoughts on this?
Hi all,
Interested in getting some advice on the following.
I interviewed for an associate role at a BB. Went through a 8 rounds, HR, interview 1, interview 2 (technical), then a day of 5 shorter interviews (30 min each). It has now been 3 weeks since my final interview and the only response provided by HR has been " we are still interviewing and haven't made a decision".
The technical round was a take-home case study which consumed a significant amount of my time think 40+ hours. As well as all the time in the rest of the process.
At this stage, I am not getting a reply from either HR or the hiring manager when asking for an update or even a rough timeline. Is this common practise in the industry, I would have thought that after 8 rounds of interviews there would have been some sort of courtesy email. Seems extremely unprofessional IMO.
I am thinking at this point I am dinged, however why not just a simple you have been unsuccessful email.
Or can anyone shed some light on the industry hiring practices at the moment? Anything else I should be considering.
Thanks
A top BB moved mountains to have me schedule a final round with them after I got an offer from another bank. They flew me to another country, asked me to get an extension from the other bank and the likes - only to go absolute radio silent after the interview until a month later. This is to say that even the most reputable banks will behave in the strangest ways and nothing is beyond them. There’s no way to tell what’s going on until they tell you directly - that is, if they ever do.
What was the final outcome for you in the end?
The radio silence is what puzzles me. Surely a little transparency goes along way. Unless its a legal thing?
In my case the outcome was negative. Came to know from a friend at the firm later on that they filled all spots around the time they interviewed me (I interviewed pretty late in the process) and most likely kept me as a replacement in case any of the hires didn’t go through with onboarding. Hence why the no explanation and the rejection a month later. All was good tho as I eventually signed with the other bank.
There may be many internal reasons why they aren’t getting back to you, and it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll turn out to be a negative. All the best!
It's possible you are one of their secondary options, and they are keeping you on ice until their first pick accepts or declines. Common practice AFAIK. Best of luck.
Yeah this kind of stuff happens all the time in recruiting BBs (large firms in general). It’s pretty sh*tty, but happens regardless. Don’t read into it too much, but keep your expectations in check. Good luck.
What’s the long term impact?
