Pathway to Investment Banking Econ/Math
I am an honours econ/math major student at McGill. I just finished my first year with a 3.8 gpa (I hope I can keep it up!). I have 4 years left in the degree. I have no prior experience in finance. Initially coming to McGill all I knew is that I loved economics and math and therefore chose this. Around halfway through first year, after joining the investment club and talking to people wanting to work in banking, I set my sights on investment banking and learned all I could about it. I don’t know how much coronavirus has thrown a wrench into all of this, but I have some questions about how I would go about landing a career in investment banking at the end of my degree.
-is my GPA high enough for Canadian BBs?
-what sort of internship should I try to find for my second and third summers (since my degree is 5 years total)?
-I didn’t do many extra curriculars other than the investment club in first year, but what sort of things are good in this regard?
-when should I start applying/networking for my 2nd summer internship?
Thanks!
