PE Exits from Jefferies

Hey all - I will be starting at Jefferies this summer. It's a generalist program, so I am trying to think ahead in terms of what groups I should shoot for. I would like to recruit for private equity and wanted to ask this forum how Jefferies analysts recruit - what sorts of funds invite Jefferies analysts to interviews, how are they perceived, how do they place, etc.? I looked for old posts but they are a little outdated, and given how fast the process seems to be now vs. then, wanted to get the lowdown on the most recent recruiting cycles.

I did a quick search on LinkedIn and found people exiting to a range of places like Water Street, Carlyle, GTCR, Arsenal Capital, MidOcean Partners, Waud, ADIA, Wellspring, TPG Sixth Street, TSG Consumer, Harvest Structured Capital, NexPhase etc. over the past few years. So it seems a good variety. Does anyone have an idea on how more recent classes recruited, and what groups receive the best looks? Ideally I would like to position myself into the group that offers the best opportunities. In terms of my own group interest, I orient towards Healthcare and M&A (I know that Healthcare crushed this year in terms of group performance, lots of deal flow), but would be open to other groups if they offer better exit opportunities.

Would really appreciate it - thanks!

You aren't going to get a look at any mega funds unless you have a very tight connection to a partner there but every other shop will be within reach. Feel like the analysts are perceived well, right after all the BB's and EB's.

As you mentioned, the firms are all over the place but they are all very good. I know this year's class is going to a wide variety of shops again, including HIG, Harvest, Orix, Catterton and One Rock.

Healthcare is still the top of the foodchain there but I don't know if they did amazing for PE placement. From what I heard, M&A did well this year and apparently the entire industrials class placed this year too (which is uncommon for a group to have a whole class place in the same year). U

M&A is one of the top groups for placement. Anybody who recruits ends up with an offer. Can't speak much for the LevFin group but would expect the placement to be similar. LevFin group gives good reps for LBO modeling so would imagine the exits would be strong. You can't go wrong with either.

Historically, one group Ive seen MF/UMM placements (BX, APO, Ares etc.) from is Energy (believe this is now merged with PUI so the energy & power group). Aside from that some of their stronger groups would be M&A, LevFin, Healthcare, Tech so you should be getting looks from those as well
