Have heard this is false. Most people don't know outside of rumors and with on-cycle happening so quickly and offers exploding within 24-48 hours sometimes, I think PE associate comp is very valuable information. Not as clear-cut as IB comp.
Not to hijack but related to all in comp over time - how much carry / co-invest are you guys getting? $5-7bn fund, up to ~$30k co-invest per platform. A1 is $275k plus random benefits bringing all-in close to $290k. No carry.
@DDTG - I’m hesitant to share specifics but most of it is health or convenience focused. Above snacks in the fridge sort of stuff. Also some $ towards entertainment type events that you’d likely incur anyway.
Generally don't get carry/co-invest at Associate level, especially at firms with "the highest associate comps".
You'll usually see carry or some mechanism therein come into play at smaller PE firms that are paying far lower on cash comp and are making it worth people's while through other carry-like incentives. I've heard of sourcing heavy shops paying out 1x bonuses of $100k or more if you source a deal that ends up making its way across the finish line. I've heard of levered non-recourse co-invest (i.e., you're making well under $200k cash comp, but are allowed to invest $20k with 3x leverage provided by the fund, so if hit a 2x return you get paid out an incremental $100k. Details can vary in terms of amount you can invest, whether its at deal level or fund level, amount of leverage they'll grant you. Have also heard of just straight carry, or a decent chunk of carry in a deal you source (again at a sourcing-heavy shop).

Any specific numbers for Associate 1 comp that you can provide?
Last I heard which was a few years ago, I recall numbers being 325+
.
Not really, going to a top paying UMM and didn't know comp until I had the offer sitting in front of me.
how different was the actual from what you expected. 275-325 range?
How much are you making at your UMM?

An Oaktree special sits first year associate just posted all in comp of $316k a few days ago. Pumps me up.
UMM $280 cash + other kitchen sink of benefits
what are the other benefits? Curious
Probably Rx protein bars + La Croix pamplemousse in the pantry.

wondering, what do you mean by "random benefits"?
Not in PE but just starting in private credit as an analyst - one of the benefits I get is $5k in student loan repayment which is tax-exempt.

H&F is up there. Had a family friend do their associate stint
What was the comp step up from aso1 to aso2? and how generous were they with shadow carry?
If you like highest associate compensation, you’ll love highest associate compensation live.
