pe internship on resume

on my resume. the bullet points look like this:

• Sourced new deals and analyzed prospective investment opportunities
• Developed pro formas for potential investments to assess valuations, equity investor returns, and potential exit strategies

need one more bullet. any constructive criticism? anything to change/add?

i actually started working here about 2 weeks ago and will work through the spring semester. SA recruiting is happening now so i wanted to put this on my resume (engineering background). i dont really have any results yet. any idea on wording?

OP,

If I received your resume and it said anything more than what you already listed I would immediately call bullshit. In fact, I would probably call bullshit on your initial two bullet points given the fact that there is only so much productive work that actually get done by a new hire intern (through no fault of his own, just learning curve related). Do not attempt to overstate your value add or experience given the brevity of your stint thus far.

No idea what eriginal is talking about. "I sourced a $5mm distressed resi deal in a newly gentrified neighborhood with 80% financing and flipped it within two weeks (after refurbing the entire place) for an 80% return."

I disagree completely, adding "Assisted" in front of something your group did is perfectly acceptable in my eyes. The point of a resume is to sell yourself, not sell yourself short - It's supposed to read like a highlight reel. Also, how did you make the ridiculous jump from my advice to quantify his experience to that hyperbolic bullshit. No intern actually lists what they did most of the time; no one wants to read how quickly you can brew a pot of coffee.

thx for the feedback junkbondswap, thats what im looking for. i wasnt planning on overstating my responsibilities because I am sure it will come up in an interview, so should i just leave the experience off my resume then? all ive been doing is finding potential deals on broker listings and filling out pro formas then interpreting results from the pro formas. any advice on how should i word my current duties?

I think your first two bullets are sufficient to the extent that you can elaborate on them, which you seem to have demonstrated above. I agree that a resume is a self-marketing document but refer to my original point as a resume should provide a realistic perspective of your accomplishments and skill sets (not some fabricated I created x of value in 2 weeks.

Have you tried asking any of the PE associates? I am in the same boat as you are, except the PE firm I am interning at is much smaller and has no fund. I asked the associates and MDs and they were more than happy to help.
