PE Internship opportunity
Will be starting at a bulge bracket bank as an analyst next summer. Have an opportunity to work with a very distinguished friend at his new PE fund before I start at the BB next summer.
Worth taking or not really gonna add much value?
Common sense dude.
Work, work, work. Work for the PE fund.
Wow, I feel so inferior...
I only ask because I've heard people on here say that doing another internship won't add much once you've done an analyst sting.

I personally would take it buddy. Unless you're going on a vacation before that or something...
Not taking the opportunity would be idiotic for the following reasons:
1) Because you are joining a friends firm he will likely go out of his way to show you the ropes and help you get a handle on the structure of PE funds and deal cycles. This will benefit you in future buyside recruiting and pad the resume.
2) Great opportunity to build a rapport with him and his partners, which may benefit you down the road. Also possible exposure to LPs, investment bankers, lawyers, etc. All great practice for your FT IB gig
3) Should help sharpen your excel, ppt, admin and communication skills.
Make sure you take some time off for yourself (travel, get drunk, etc.) but I would definitely not pass up the opportunity. This world (finance) is as much about who you know as it is what you know. Make sure you ask a lot of questions and listen more than you talk. Best of luck to you.
Idiotic might be a tad too strong of language but jbs sums it up well. This would be a good opportunity for you to grow personally so I wouldn't pass it up, but you should definitely make some time for yourself before starting your 2 year trek through hell.
Regards
Assuming it doesn't conflict with your contract at the BB, go for it.
