Transaction Experience? Do I have it?
I'm a career switcher who just finished my 1st year MBA at a target school. I still don't know much about finance but definately know a lot more than before. People always talk about how important transaction experience is. Can someone tell me whether what I'm doing right now as an Intern in Structure Finance will get me transaction experience?
The firm that I'm with this summer invests in different sectors of emerging countries, such as banking, infrastructure, energy, etc. PE firms or the company itself would approach the Structure Finance team for borrowing $ to funds their projects.
I'm now working on two live deals, and we're lending 100MM to each. My job as a summer intern is the following:
1) Analyze the models provided by the sponsors to determine whether they can pay us back and whether the models have any structural problems. If so, I will work with the director and MD to negotiate the terms and the structure of the loan with the PE firms.
2) I do a lot of economy and industry research. Then, I will write pages of reports that will go into the loan agreement which will get submitted for approval.
3) I also need to build my own models to sensitize different scenarios and sometimes have to merge different models together to get a complete picture of what's going on.
4) Often times, the PE firms will send us their valuation of the target company that they want to acquire, and I have to analyze it.
What do you think?
structuring is just one part of it. transaction experience usually refers to the entire deal process from start to finish.
live deals = transaction experience

Yes, would definitely pitch this as 'transaction experience'. It is specific but still you are working on live executions
PE Transaction Experience (Originally Posted: 07/29/2016)
Brushing up my deal sheet here, but let’s say you’re an investor and say hold 10% of Target, of which Acquirer made an offer to take out the company and was successful. You evaluated the deal to see whether it makes sense to exit or convert to Acquirer stock and ultimately chose the latter. How would you represent/phrase that in your transaction experience?
Might be a neutral question more or less but just wanted to see other people’s take on it since haven’t really written any experience with that kind of dynamics.
Also, did IB previously so experience is taking up some space. Do people ever list “Transaction experience available upon request” when you have a couple years of IB and PE experience?

anyone?
You should not list "by request"...nobody will ask! Pick the 3-4 deals you think show best or know best, and put those on your resume. Make it easy for people to be able tell what you did and why it was important. Good luck!
Quick Question About Transaction Experience (Originally Posted: 05/15/2011)
Say for example, you are working on an M&A transaction, and the company files a press release that it has retained your firm as the financial advisor to explore alternatives such as a merger or sale, is it ok to to put that down on your resume since it is now public information and if so, just how much detail can you release since technically an agreement has not been announced?

no because presumably you would still be putting MNPI on your resume
