Peace Corps Econ Development? Or Entry level finance in NYC? (MBA future outlook)

Hello WSO Community!

I recently moved to NYC on Christmas day, I graduated college in early Dec from a very non-target school in Texas. I was initially planning on attending a school in the city after high school but because I was in foster care as a youth, I was able to go to a public university in my home state (TX) completely free. It was my dream to always come to this city and I am very happy I made the leap. I currently have enough resources to support myself for 4-5 months.

I am currently seeking advice on where to move forward with my current situation. In college I worked in wealth management while finishing school and have networked enough to land some very entry level interviews such as S&T assistants as well as sell side research assistant type roles. I also just received an offer to serve in the Peace Corps Economic Development program in Fiji for 2 years. This role would allow me to get basic consulting experience with business owners in the community and get exposure to a completely different culture, I am really stuck on where to go right now and would really appreciate any advice or insight. I unfortunately only have 3 days to decide on the peace corps but still have some other interviews lined up in the city in the future which makes things tough and I want to make the right move.

My end goal is to go to a top 20 MBA program as quickly as possible and lateral into Consulting or IB. I am very passionate about both of those spaces. However, I believe my academic background and work experience in college will only allow me to get a subpar role in the city based on how many apps I’ve submitted and the results that I’ve had thus far. Again, I know I have not been in the city for very long, it’s just the Peace Corps opportunity presented itself and I was not expecting to get into that program. I would love to hear any stories from anyone you guys may know who was in the peace corps and was able to lateral into a top grad school or from individual’s who did not work in top firms or elite roles right out of undergrad who were still able to get into top MBA programs. I would also love to hear any negative comments or feedback about the peace corps economic development program to help me craft my decision.

Again, any advice or insight on what the best path might be based on stories or experiences would be greatly appreciated. I am very open to criticism and will not take it to heart, it will only help me have a clearer idea on what the right path may be.

Thank you!
