Penn Club of NY vs. Yale Club of NY vs. Cornell Club of NY
I'm going to qualify for those three alumni clubs (attended Cornell, graduated Penn, family at Yale). Which is best/your favorite and why in terms of dining/gym. Which has "better" people (e.g. less lower-affiliate-school people) Which has more finance people? etc.
Dude... lame.
snobbery and narcissism can make people happy. and i deserve to be happy.
Snobbery, yes... narcissism, not really. After all you'll be just another Yalie in a crowd of much more successful Yalies.
The only people I have ever seen go in our out of those "clubs" are old women.
if its older women most likely worth it to take a look.....predominately jewish to i bet.
based on past posts: why the hell do you seem to actually prefer old women? would be interested to see rationale

Any of them will allow you to project the facade that you're someone worth knowing without actually having to be someone worth knowing.

Think about it this way, who would go into midtown just to visit one of these clubs? Say I already work in midtown, I have my office to go to. So who does this leave? In my one visit to the Penn Club shortly after I graduated, I saw recent graduate losers that thought that there will be networking opportunities there, and some Japanese looking guys that were having a meeting there. The weights room was empty, the library was empty, and the "concierge" service consists of calling up the same ticket brokers I can call. Trust me, if you are looking to pay for a network, you are much better off buying into a country club, or one of the late night sports leagues in the city.
thanks yusucks thats very insightful.
See which ones have reciprocity across other NYC clubs and in other cities/countries. The Cornell Club has a well developed network. You can use the Princeton Club's squash court, and go have lunch in a number of clubs in London, for example (I'm sure the other clubs do too). Cornell's gym is ok; Cayuga Room's food is great; library is a good place to find peaceful time in noisy midtown. Also, you can have family and friends stay in one of the hotel rooms for a fraction of equivalent hotel rates. Yale Club is a larger facility and probably the best looking of all of them. Never been to the Penn club.
If you have the cash to spend, join all three. If you need to choose one, I would imagine that Penn has the best finance network due to Wharton (MBA and undergrad). Go for a visit at lunch and compare.
