Perks of equity research

I was wondering what perks are associated with sell-side equity research at different levels. What can be expected in the first few years if anything, and what do senior analysts get? Assuming this is at a bulge bracket bank.

Yah, perks definitely travel points (air and hotel), and just getting to see diff parts of world for essentially free. Obv depends on your ground and bank, but it can be nice to travel around if you have no kids. Another is the client base you get to speak with. I’ve got a contact at tons of credit funds through our published research and networking at events, so really no easier way to have yourself marketed.

One of the biggest perks I would say is the autonomy. If you make it to analyst, you're essentially your own business within a bank. Sure, you have to occasionally work on industry reports with the rest of the ER team, but other than that, you choose which product you're putting out there. Want to call 50 buy side analysts today or zero? Up to you depending on how hard you want to grind it out.

In IB, things are much more rigid. Unless you're the MD, there's not a lot autonomy in your actions. Instead, you're just a bigger or smaller cog in a machine depending on your position.

Shitload of free samples, gift boxes and gift cards. None of it for big-dollar amounts. But if you ever need presents for your nephews, you’ll be all set in equity research.
