PhD students doing consulting internships?

Hello,

I'm a PhD student in engineering and I've gotten permission from my prof to take next summer off to do an internship and I'm hoping to land something in consulting. I've been in touch with a number of firms and some are willing to consider a PhD student for a summer position and some are not. I'm wondering if any of you have any knowledge/experience of having done an internship as a PhD student or have known anyone who has and can give any advice such as whether there are any firms that are particularly open to the idea?

Thanks.

Also I posted my resume in the resume forum a few days ago. It would be great if anyone has any feedback:

I did an investment banking internship being a science PhD student. If I was able to pull that off, then you should have no problem doing a consulting internship. Boutiques will be much more open to it, especially if they are specialized in dealing with companies in areas you are getting your PhD in. I.e. technology boutique will take a Comp Sci PhD student.

MBB will hire phds as summers, though they don't really actively recruit for phd interns. I don't know of any phds that did internships, but it certainly is possible.

Your resume doesn't stand out too well. At brief glance, I don't see much personal impact or accomplishments. Be sure to highlight what you did and how you contributed to all the things on your resume.
