PJT London vs Citi HK (IBD SA)

My long-term career plan is definitely going back to Asia, but honestly I do not mind working for a few years in London before going back. Also, some of my seniors told me that people could get much better exposure and learning experience from doing summer internships in London.

Any advice or perspective would be appreciated!!!

You would look better in Asia if you have a few years of international experience, not to mention you will be working at a TOP EB in a finance hub. You can easily lateral to a top IBD/PE firm in HK after a few years at PJT LN. PJT even has a HK team, although it is very small. However, it would be difficult to lateral from HK to LN.

If you do not have any commitment in Asia right now (e.g. any family/girl friend related issues), would recommend PJT LN

I’d also take into account the likelihood of converting to FT. No clue about Europe (if anyone can confirm), but conversion rates in the US for PJT are really high, much higher than Citi’s.

From a compensation perspective, there is no point in interning in London... Not sure what PJT offers, but if you full-time in London you will get around GBP 60k as base. In HK, you will get around HKD 840k which is approximately GBP 80k. With the tax difference (30%+ in London and 20%  or 15% tops in HK), there is a huge gap.

If you are determined to work in Asia, I would recommend work in HK directly. You also benefit from the network you develop overtime.Hope this helps, good luck.

PJT base is 70k. Bonuses are also highest on street. Pre base raise at banks PJT all in was 120k GBP. Has elite exits and regularly see former GS/top BB interns choosing PJT internship over FT

No way is someone turning down a FT offer at GS/MS/JPM to go and intern at PJT wtf. Pay differentials can never be that deep
