Placed in LatAm just because I speak Spanish?

Hello WSO.

Interning at a BB this summer and currently undergoing the placement process. I’ve been reached out to by a LatAm banker to talk about my interest in the LatAm team.

I interned in LatAm the previous summer at a different bank in NYC. I hated it. I plan on communicating this to the banker I’ll be speaking to, obviously in a polite manner.

I do not even have LatAm ranked in my top 10 groups for placement.

What are the chances that HR will still place me in LatAm just because I speak spanish?

The chances based on language alone are slim. Since you have this previous experience (and HR probably knows), if they place you it will be because of that. Then again, since you're an intern, the bank should also know you are there to learn and try different teams in your career. Express interest for another team, justify why you and you should be fine.
