Please Critique This Resume

Hi,

Can anyone please critique my resume? My story: I was supposed to be put into S&T by my previous employer (agreement we made during my interview) but got laid off instead earlier this year. I have since picked up a new job but it seems that all that recruiters are calling me for are Operations-type roles. I'm most interested in S&T, but I'll do research, IB, anything to get out of what I'm doing now...thanks

Thanks...well I have applied to over 25+ different Trading Assistant / Junior Trader type roles on Monster/E-Financial Careers/Craigslist, and I haven't even gotten so much as an interview. I even applied to some entry level IB / Research jobs and still nothing.

Once I got a "We regret to inform you" e-mail from UBS, but that's it.

DaCarez:
Dates are all left-aligned, align them to be flush to the right side of the page (define a new tab stop in Word)
retc:
I would leave out the IT division then

The bullet indent for your Experience is just for preference and formatting, so it's your call

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

Maybe not indent that much from the left margin to the bullet, but you get the idea

How's this? (Updated). I don't want to indent too much since some of the 1-line items turn into 2-line items, making the resume more than one page. Currently I have quarter-inch margins on the top/bottom, half-inch margins on the sides, and size 10 font, which is cutting it close...

When it goes from 2008-2010, the next set of dates Summer 2007 and the bottom date of 2007-2008

If you could, without leaving that one word line hanger, indent your bullets in maybe a tab or some increment (might look better to the eye, but that's preference I suppose)

Also, perhaps list your division for Lehmen to keep your experience setup consistent

Overall, a very nice resume

Thanks.

What dates should I put for my internship? Just 2007? I don't want to make it look like I worked at Lehman and Morgan for a whole year. Also, the Management Game was my capstone class during my Spring semester...

I purposely took out my division for Lehman (IT) because under no circumstances do I want to go back into IT. Basically wanted to de-emphasize it. Should I put it back in?

Yeah that looks fine

I'm sure others WSO people would have some better tips for formatting, preference I guess

But for my two cents, I would not center those sections (ie - education, professional exp, etc.) and just leave them on the left and put a line

Delete "internship experience" and save two lines

Skills to Technical Skills

Would be cool if you had something for track and field like all-american

I deleted the internship experience - saved a line. Skills --> Technical Skills has been changed.

The other headers - I can put them on the left, but if I insert a line break, the resume goes to two pages. (That's 5 line breaks in total). I could underline them instead like the resume you posted before, what do you think about that? (http://www.razume.com/documents/14539) I like it centered because it creates the illusion of less white space. (Also, I have a Wharton Resume Book and they all center it...)

Track and Field - nothing notable. Collapsed lung after sophomore year so I had to quit.

I'd just use a full line

In word type: ---- then hit enter and it should make a line (and it'll be consistent every time you do it)

you can then adjust the spacing of the word and line as well so if need be can save space

it's preference anyways, whatever works for you
