Please Help: Big Dilemma
Hello WSO, I am a few years out of school and work at a top 3 BB and made the switch to current firm from another BB previously. (Regional IB to exotic derivs desk in NYC)
I have been in the new role for a short period of time and recently had a minor back & forth on how to proceed with a project with a more senior colleague before agreeing that her/his path was the best way forward. Since then, senior colleague has changed her/his whole demeanor toward me and has picked on me/ridiculed me over minor statements & occurrences, berated me over every little mistake then proceeded to loudly lecture me at length in front of the desk as to why I was wrong, and has passive aggressively excluded me from client events (i.e. “forgetting” to ask me to join) when everyone else got to go.
I am completely at a loss on how to respond to such a situation given the circumstances. I see no viable path forward and need some advice on how to proceed as it’s been creating a lot of anxiety and I now feel trapped. I am afraid to discuss this with friends/family because I don’t want them to think that I am failing at my job. And I don’t want to bring this up internally to other folks within the firm because they might think that I am overreacting or am not a good fit for the culture. Do I just sack up and tough it out at the risk of getting fucked during review season? Or is there a path forward from here where this could be addressed? It sucks the most because I left all of my friends and family back home thinking that I made a great decision to come to NYC and now feel like I’ve made a horrible mistake. My desk is small so there aren’t many other people to go to at my own shop since I’m in a niche illiquid market.
This really sucks guys. Any advice appreciated.
