Please please Help for the pathetic me

Please please Help for the pathetic me. It is pathetic that I gave people advice in this forum then I failed in a trap similar to what happened to them.

I recently applied for jobs on trading desks and listed my references from my last IB, only to receive this email form the human resources of my last IB saying that they received a request to verify my employment and they have no record of my employment. They also said in the email (“ We’ve also checked with xxxx department since most of your references are from there, but they do not recall your name either. If there’s been a mistake and you were indeed an intern with XXXX, please let me know")

So it appears that the prospective employers send my whole application to the previous one giving that they have my new email and list of my references. I did interned with them and latter I was doing work to the director “under the table”. IF HE SAID TO HR THAT HE DOSE NOT RECALL MY NAME, then I guess I am in real trouble. I am afraid that they will call my university as well since they have my whole application and my relationship with my last reference in school is not good. Maybe that’s why I am not receiving any interviews. Any idea what should I do? Please

would you please be serious. Anybody went through a similar situation? I am about to email the HR person back, I just want to focus on what to write. Any insight? Please

Speak with your refs. Move from there.
That’s what is making me very nervous and angry the whole day. What the HR wrote in the email “We’ve also checked with xxxx department since most of your references are from there, but they do not recall your name either” any help what that may be? They should at least say oh we know X. any other idea of what i should write back to HR

You need to call the director and straighten things out with him first thing Monday morning. Do not go through HR. Send him an email now to let him know you will be calling.

Don't panic and plan what you are going to say ahead of time. Make a list of the work you did so you can remind the Director who you are. Don't get angry and act like a professional.

Assuming that you didn't lie on your application, you should be fine. But you need to get in front of this situation right away. Otherwise you may be SOL trying to reverse damage caused for no reason.

Also, do you have anything you can use as proof? Anything at all? Work papers, emails, etc.? You could probably use this to prove to your uni that you aren't lying.

If this is time sensitive then first email HR and say that there has been a mistake. You're going to reach out to each of your refs and will revert back to them. Call up your refs, explain the situation, and ask wtf is up. If they agree to confirm that you were an intern of theirs then I would think you're fine.

If I'm reading this correctly then it sounds like the refs don't want to confirm you because it was off the books and they could be in trouble? If that's the case, then it doesn't sound like there is anything to do. I would still get back to HR and tell them the situation even if it won't help you with securing an interview. It may help prevent them from informing your uni of the problem
