Polish president killed in plane crash

(CNN) -- Polish President Lech Kaczynski was killed early Saturday along with his wife, several top military officials, and the head of the national bank when their plane crashed at a western Russian airport, officials said.

What I'm thinking is that this could be one of the biggest things in this decade. And considering the riot in Kyrgyzstan, there might be something big behind this.

"one of the biggest things in this decade" ??????????

if by this decade you meant the decade ending this year; 2000-2010, then that was a stupid thing to say;

9/11, war on terrorism and rise of terrorism biggest financial meltdown in the peace time world rise of china as the world's lender and fall of america black president nuclear dissarmament treaty rise in natural disasters and start of a commitment to green peace reality tv boom rise in media scrutiny

if by this decade you meant the decade ending 2020 (2010-2020), then that was an even dumber thing to say, since we have no idea what's coming, but just from what we know, we'll see;

recovery from global recession and 'a new financial world' the shift of power from america to china (and america's reaction) potential UK - argentina war over oil in the Fauklands terrorism and potential of them getting nuclear weapons failed states and nuclear weapons north korea; prosepects... space wars (battle for space terrirotry) hybrid fuel cell technology

WTF??

What are you smoking? reality tv boom is bigger than pretty much all the main leaders from a country excpet for the minister dying in a plane crash? This plane had basically the heads of all the military departments and some other 80 people that were basically running the country.

This is bigger than a reality tv boom (again WTF).

I would also argue it is bigger news than a Black president.

THe poster also clearly means it in a 'news' type of way, not developments over decades.

Yeah, pretty major. Poland's going to get killed when the market opens.

I don't think you should write "there might be something big behind this" - they crashed into a tree at a Russian air base, and the insinuation that the Russian government for some reason assassinated the entire leadership of a sovereign nation is both ridiculous and reckless - or have you forgotten Franz Ferdinand?

LoL china has risen over the US? u fuck tard.....over 90% of the chinese population are farmers and dumb i.e. google incident. China will never rise above the U.S. or at least in my lifetime.

rodney - there are 10 years in a DECAde, not eleven. 2000-2009 is a decade the same way the "90s" are defined as 1990-1999

This is definitely a huge news story and a horrible tragedy, Convert nailed it - the President and a significant number of other top officials of a country were all wiped out today

I guess WSO is my new breaking news source, I had no idea about this until I saw the thread, thanks OP

Technically you are both wrong in different parts. It is of course true that there are only 10 years in a decade but 2001 was the "real" Millennium, reason being time started in year 1 CE (and before that was 1 BCE) so 0 was skipped. As such, the first decade of the 3rd Millennium is 2001-2010, and second 2011-2020.

To the guy who doesn't think china will outstrip america, and to the guy who thinks this isn't happening already - just look where america has borrowed all its money from. US (like UK, and europe) will be digging itself out of debt for the next 8 years minimum; China just needs its domestic market to continue growing at its current rate and that's it.

Rodney, Rodney, Rodney...is it really that simple? I'm not getting into this, that's a very sophmoric approach to this issue.

Gotta agree with rebelcross here... China is still a huge way from outstripping America

And I'm sure even a sophomore could point out the flaw in this logic

rodneymullen:
also, go take a poll of 100,000 people off the street - ask them which has had a bigger impact on their life - reality tv or a president who 95% won't have previously heard of dying. I'm guessing half of america couldn't even find poland on a map.

rodneymullen:
big thing = something which has a large impact on a lot of people

ask a lot of people which had more impact

the one which people say had a bigger impact is a bigger thing.

where's the logic flaw?

Yea when you ask 95% in America than they will say reality tv because a a) the news hasnt been digested yet (even my Russian friend in American only found out today) b) you are asking Americans, who believe it or not are not the only nation on earth you ignorant fuck.

Go ask Polish people what has had a bigger effect, or anyone in Europe, whether its been reality tv or this piece of news.

Well I live in London and I'd make the same point about the UK population (except they'd be able to find poland on a map), just as I would the French, or German, or Nordic. The only people who are in any way effected, are those living in and around Poland.

This news is as local as David Cameron's son dying, or Berlesconi's criminal investigation.

I give the example of the US because that's where most people who write on here are from, and it's where the OP is from.
