Edmundo Braverman:
L'Osservatorio Romano is reporting that the Pope resigned immediately after a friend sent him the following YouTube video:
Piss-poor argument to be honest. There's no trace of what people did before the invention of writing save for hunt buffalo/make fires/start planting some corn. Did bad stuff happen? Probably. All the time? Probably not. Just look at the example of the Khoisan in Southern Africa, nobody's pinning crimes against humanity on those guys.

And then why the Israelites? Probably precisely because they were weak. And why all the killing/wars/etc? It hasn't been that long that military power was the end-all-be-all of power. And as much as the US' power manifests itself through it's economic power, the fact that the we have more nukes, ships and planes than the others plays a huge part.

Military power is definitely a direct result of economic power with a hint of public policy thrown in to explain the North Koreas and Irans of the world. I wouldn't say their military power is why the US is the most influential and commanding country in the world, it's the economic landscape and the incentive system we have in place that leads to having the highest quality shit in all aspects we care to focus on, not just military.

LOL I'd bet money on anything Parkinson's research, I'm guessing that the church is going to take less of a hard line against stem cell research now that their very leader has succumbed to it...

He was a placeholder betwen JPII and the next pope anyway, it's why they elected him. LOL Probably never guessed he'd step down early, they wanted a cooling period between the most popular pope ever and the next long term pick. Now the Church needs to find a direction sooner rather than later and the pressure is ON for the next pope: I'm thinking the Curia was hoping for at least another 5-10 years before they had to get their shit together.

I'm going to open betting with 3:1 in favor of Francis Arinze and 3:2 Peter Turkson - the US has a black president, it's not too edgy to support an African (aka A NON EURO, BLACK PERSON) this time around, so the College might actually pick someone from an active region (Africa or South America), rather than a declining membership area (basically everywhere else). There's also talk of the Canadian getting elected, but I say fat chance, it just doesn't feel viable, so I'm going 8:7 despite what the bookmakers in London are saying. You can't pick the first North American ahead of the most active region, it will just piss everyone off....maybe 20 years ago, maybe in 20 years, but the Church needs MEMBERSHIP, and this is how they're going to do it.

On a more serious note, WTF, you just wake up on Monday all "fuck this, I quit, I don't want this crummy job anymore?!" Tsk tsk.
