Portfolio Management Internship
Hi everyone. How does a portfolio management internship in the PWM group at a BB appear for someone applying to a IBD summer analyst program? The position has nothing to do with relationship management. Most of my time is spent analyzing different combinations of fixed income/equity portfolios for millionaire clients using mathematical financial models. My concern is that anything in the PWM group seems a dime a dozen. Also, which of the following titles would you suggest I put on my resume?
- Finance Intern
- Portfolio Management Intern
- Portfolio Management Summer Analyst
- Investment Management Intern
- Investment Management Summer Analyst
Thanks in advance.
To start off, any sophmore internship that puts a recognized bank name on your resume is good.
As a resume reader, I recognize the bottom four options as a PWM internship. However, only your description of your duties will give you a leg up over anyone else. Don't put "Finance Intern" as I put that in the random corp dev, I worked at my daddy's company type of thing.
As you said, PWM internships are a dime a dozen, regardless of whether you were more weighted to analysis or to cold calling people. It will all be in the story you tell via your resume.
I'm also curious as to why you are asking this right now, SAs have already started for this year and SA recruiting for next year is in 6 months. If you are doing this job right now, then you won't be able to really answer what you did for the summer in a coherent fashion for another 2 months.
